Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
